According to Nielsen Research, U.S. smartphone usage has reached about 50% with feature phones on the decline. Smartphones when compared to feature phones have more advanced connectivity and computing functionality. To support these more advanced phones, top service providers, including AT&T and Verizon, typically mandate or strongly suggest data planes for smartphone users. Who is selling these phones? The top 5 are Nokia, Samsung, Apple, LG, and ZTE (one you have probably never heard of). These smartphones are running Google Android (42.6%), Apple iOS (27.5%), and RIM Blackberry OS (22.1%).
