You probably have heard of this device or you even own one. That's fine. So what's the latest gist about it. We'll get to that soon, but lets do a short review of the device for the benefits of those who are just getting to know about it.
Chromecast is a digital media player developed by Google. The device, a 2.83-inch (72 mm) HDMI dongle, plays audio/video content on a high-definition television by directly streaming it via Wi-Fi from the Internet or a local network. Users select the media to play from Chromecast-enabled mobile apps and Web apps, or through a beta feature called "tab casting" that can mirror most content from the web browser Google Chrome. The device was announced on July 24, 2013, and made available for purchase on the same day in the United States for US$35.
So what's new?
Google opened Chromecast Software Development Kit (SDK) to all developers some days back enabling them to create their own applications for the streaming media stick and today we learned through TNW that Chromecast will be available in the UK tentatively from March 1 through electronics retailer Currys.
Chromecast will soon get more great apps including the likes of Rdio and Beats Music as both companies have announced through Twitter that they are currently developing their Chromecast-compatible apps that will stream music through subscribers’ TVs.
“Our team is already working on developing support for Chromecast. Stay tuned!” tweetedRdio.
